Slap bracelets were a fad accessory that hit schools everywhere. Often found as arcade ticket redemption prizes, novelty store items or at your local Chuck E. Cheese's establishment it seemed like everyone had at least one, and they wore it to school. It didn't take long for this aggressively slapped fashion accessory to stir problems with children causing themselves injury from improper use of it. Bearing in mind this was a piece of metal wrapped in thin nylon (or nylon-like, polyester'ish?) cloth and sharp edges (later rounded), it was no surprise. After schools had dealt with the injuries from these items, the fly by fad was soon banned from many schools. Without the exposure to be "cool in school", the fad faded away.
